All-India cement prices are higher by 2% QoQ in QTD January-March 2018, led by price hikes in the central and east regions. Prices in the west are also higher QoQ, with exit prices in the Gujarat markets higher than average prices in 3QFY18.
Low base and pick-up in construction activities aided demand environment to remain strong in Jan’18. Though sand issues remained as major headwind for cement demand, improved availability of sands supported sales volume.
Having seen subdued sales volumes in 1HFY18, cement industry is expected to witness a healthy comeback in terms of sales volume growth in 3QFY18 mainly due to low base effect and benign construction environment.
